En smuk film om H.H. den 14. Dalai Lamas liv er Martin Scorseses Kundun (1997). Kundun (སྐུ་མདུན་ ; sku mdun) betyder bogstaveligt nærvær eller tilstedeværelse og er en titel for at tiltale Dalai Lamaen.
Filmen er visuelt meget smuk og viser den tibetanske kultur, filosofi og religion. Filmen viser forskellige episoder i Tenzin Gyatso, den 14. Dalai Lamas liv, hvordan man søger efter en genfødt lama, hvordan man bliver indsat på tronen, oplært osv. indtil kinesernes invasion af Tibet i 1950 og Dalai Lamaens flugt i 1959. Selvom det ikke er en fuldstændig bio-pic, der viser hele livet, er filmen tro til Hans Helligheds biografi. En must-see for alle.
